Finding solutions to re-use the raw materials of waste batteries and accumulators has been my passion for more than 20 years. In that period I have been able to help more than 1000 companies to realize this and at the same time to fulfill their legal producer responsibility.

Now that the principle of producer responsibility has been evaluated for an endeavor to achieve a circular economy, again many puzzles need to be resolved. At the same time companies like to show that they too are making efforts to continue using the raw materials of their products for as long as possible. This gives me a lot of energy again and I am happy to accept that challenge.

By working out customized solutions together with these companies, we can show that a circular economy is feasible. The objectives and corporate culture of NOWOS provide all the space and possibilities to take the reuse of batteries and accumulators to the next level and to achieve a win-win-win situation for companies, the environment and the circular economy.

Let me introduce myself and NOWOS:

NOWOS B.V. is an Urban Mining company specialised in the recycling of (Lithium-Ion) batteries.
 After the sale of my company Super B (www.super-b.com) I thought for a long time about what is important to me:

  • Entrepreneurship, how can we build a socially responsible company.
  • Demonstrate that sustainability can also be economically viable.
  • Contribute to or develop the circular economy.
  • Create new products from recycled material.

NOWOS was born from the above interests.

In brief:

  • Recycling of useful materials from urban waste (Urban Mining) and facilitating end-to-end circular and logistical processes in the field of discarded (Lithium-Ion) batteries. (Reverse logistics)
  • Providing customised advice and services with regard to all aspects of safe handling, legal rules, and administration in relation to discarded (Lithium-Ion) batteries.
  • Contributing to social renewal, with the principle that every person should be able to develop freely, has equal rights and is responsible for the consequences of his (economic) actions on society and the environment.

We aim to not only reclaim raw materials from batteries but to reclaim them in a way that has a positive effect on our planet, people and profit. We aim to add value by treating batteries not as waste, but as a valuable material for re-creation:

  • We believe you should get actually paid for your used products! Recycling should be cheaper than digging materials from the ground.
  • We believe the process of reclaiming raw materials should have no additional negative side effects on the planet and people, giving our earth and population a chance to regenerate and heal itself!

This asks of us to create a radically different process of reclaiming raw materials: more efficient, better in quality, with less negative side effects. 
Together with partners, we have started developing a system in which waste Lithium-Ion batteries are separated and processed in a legal, safe, sustainable and economically viable way.
